But Starmer was critical of Trump during his first term in office, with his administration’s family separation policy in response to illegal migration at the US-Mexico border drawing a stinging rebuke from the then-shadow minister.Under the policy, more than 5,500 children, including infants, were separated from their families.
In a post following Biden’s inauguration in January 2021, she also praised Kamala Harris after she was sworn in as Vice President. In a speech to the Fabian Society in 2017, shortly after Trump had been inaugurated, she said he had “built his campaign for the Presidency on vitriol and abuse”.
