It took off from Langar Airfield
and Leicestershire. The RAF Lancaster Bomber - one of only two in the world still flying - made an appearance over Langar on Saturday, May 13, to remember Lancaster C for Charlie, W4938, which was lost with all crew on May 23, 1943, after taking off from Langar Airfield. The impressive plane flew over the site at 2.33pm the same day.
In 1994, a memorial was erected to remember 207, thanks to the late wife of bomb aimer Thomas Skelton, Dorothy Ware. The memorial was recently refurbished by Belvoir Rail Company of Cotgrave, and a new bench seat was provided by Rushcliffe Borough Council.Speaking prior to the event, Councillor John Crosby, of Langar cum Barnstone Parish Council, said:"Without Dorothy or the generosity of Roland Gale, owner of the airfield, the memorial may never have been dedicated.
"How else can they be remembered than with a flypast and circuits of the BBMF Lancaster, weather permitting".People gathered to remember Lancaster C for Charlie, W4938
