Amazon added Grubhub ’s food delivery service to its website and app, the two companies announced on Thursday, nearly two years after the e-commerce giant inked a deal to acquire a minor stake in the food delivery platform., the company said all Amazon customers in the U.S. can now use Grubhub 's service to order food from nearby restaurants directly on Amazon .com and in the Amazon Shopping app.
As part of the deal, Amazon Prime subscribers will be eligible for free delivery on orders of $12 or more and receive other benefits linked to Grubhub Plus—the food delivery app’s $10 per month subscription service. Earlier, Amazon users who paid for the $139 per year Prime subscription received a free one-year trial of Grubhub Plus—but the special perk has now been made permanent.
The companies say the food ordering experience on Amazon’s website and app is “identical” to ordering on Grubhub. When first attempting to order from Grubhub via Amazon, the food delivery service asks the user to opt-in to link the account and pull details about a user’s email id and Prime membership status.Consumer Intelligence Research Partners. The analyst firm said Prime subscriber counts were up 8% compared to the previous year. Amazon raised the annual subscription fee for Prime from $129 to $139 in 2022.
