The fossilised remains of fish believed to date back 140 million years before the dinosaurs have been discovered hiding in plain sight on the streets of Inverness.
Ancient fossils believed to predate dinosaurs by 140 million years have been discovered in a Scottish city.
Ryan's work involves recounting the fossil-related exploits of Victorian geologist Hugh Miller to museum visitors. He said he was excited to uncover the remains of the ancient fish while walking in Inverness. According to him, the fossils were not previously known about. This may be because those who do not have a trained eye would not know what they are, allowing them to hide in plain sight.

The latter is a thin structure that forms the front of a dorsal fin. Countless ancient remains travelled within these flagstones, with the new Inverness pavement discoveries being far from the first of their kind — even within Scotland. Both Glasgow and Edinburgh's pavements are known to have examples of fossils contained within them.
