Lancashire Constabulary's Hutton headquarters were recently in the international spotlight following the Nicola Bulley missing persons case

With a population of only a couple of thousand, the village of Hutton is among the lesser known parts of Lancashire. But it is home to a very important service where dogs, horses - and humans - are all trained to keep the entire county safe.

The complex grew in size after the Second World War and it now appears as much like a highly secure residential estate, with old houses and flats repurposed as offices and training centres. Football and rugby pitches fill the centre of an estate which is home to the Blues and Twos Credit Union, Lancashire Police Federation and the police training school. Close by, dedicated branches for the canine and horse units are also located within the village.

A central point of the village is Hutton Village Hall, which hosts regular groups and activities. It is surrounded by playing fields and a play area, as well as a pond area overlooked by a bench. One man who was sat by the pond as LancsLive visited this week said he loved living the village. Announcing that decision in May, she said: "We’ve had five great years, but the last few months or so have been tough, various reasons, cost of living, drop in customers visiting the shop, footfall, ingredient prices rocketing, supermarkets taking over the world just made it harder to keep the business up and running. It’s been the most stressful time but also the most rewarding, seeing your dream in action has been wonderful.

It hosts events such as an Independence Day party and earlier this month celebrated its first birthday with face painters, yard games and live music, while its family friendly offering extends to having its own cinema room showing kids films throughout the day. It was the first Hickory's to open in Lancashire and a second will soon follow in Thornton-Cleveleys.
