Danny said the freshly caught fish paled in comparison to what he was accustomed to back home. In his article for the Yorkshire Evening Post, Danny remarked: "For me, good fish and chips have to be cooked in beef dripping and made fresh. It's surprising how many places don’t change their oil regularly—I can definitely taste the difference.

In its latest roundup of "23 of the UK's Best Fish and Chip Shops," *The Times* ranked John Long's in Belfast city center at the very top.
