An anti-racism campaigner has warned that Glasgow is not immune from racism and the far-right after she was allegedly subjected to an attempted racial assault. Zamard Zahid, 55, had been on Victoria Road outside Queen Park Station in the south side of the city at 6.15pm on Wednesday, August 7.

The campigner said she had never experienced the level aggression and hate before. She said: "I was standing in front of Victoria Road when this man walked past us As he walked down the road he said 'I'm the far right' and made a Nazi salute. Zamard tried to take her phone out to record the incident but she claims the man "went for her", but was pulled away by passers-by who had heard the shouting.

Top news stories today Zamard said: "We have this idea of Scottish exceptionalism that we are not like England. We didn't vote Tory. That is not true. We need to mobilise and show the far right that they aren't welcome in Scotland. I want my experience to show why we need unity and to show we are not frightened.
