Roadshow expert Joanna Hardy was 'gobsmacked' by the discovery

A woman was left speechless after discovering an "old bag of trinkets" left by her late husband on top of a wardrobe contained a brooch worth a five figure sum.

But it was the final guest who came up with the most memorable item - an antique brooch made in Sri Lanka. The guest revealed her late husband was a big collector of "anything trinkety". She brought along two of his brooches to the roadshow, hoping to find out their provenance. She suspected they might be costume jewellery or made of glass.

Expert Joanna Hardy was blown away by what the woman showed her. She told the guest: "I'm very pleased you came today. In fact I am more than pleased. I am absolutely gobsmacked." She continued: "The colour and the cut of it - it absolutely popped out at me. This is a wonderful stone. It has a lot of life and a lot of fire."
