Riordan 'Rio' Keetley, a 21-year-old apprentice bricklayer from Nottinghamshire, commutes 161 miles by train to the National House Building Council's (NHBC) Training Hub in Newcastle for his apprenticeship. He balances his theoretical and practical training with on-site work at a Keepmoat development in Gedling, where he contributes to building hundreds of new homes.
Riordan ‘Rio’ Keetley, 21, from Nottinghamshire, is currently a Level 2 Bricklaying apprenticeship at the National House Building Council’s Training Hub in Newcastle. Rio travels 161 miles by train for the training block weeks of his apprenticeship to learn theory and practical skills.
“I took on various jobs in the meantime, becoming a bit of a jack-of-all-trades. Then, a family member told me about apprenticeship opportunities at Keepmoat, and I knew this was the chance I had been waiting for. Rio chose an apprenticeship over the traditional college or university route in order to learn a practical skill that would serve him for life. He started his training in March last year after working a number of jobs including a waiter, hospital cleaner and CCTV operator.
