Approval has been given for 33 dwellings at the former Belvoir Park Hospital site, despite being outside the Belfast development area and despite local objections. At the Belfast City Council Planning Committee meeting at City Hall this week, elected representatives approved an application from Belvoir Park LLP, London, for the erection of 33 dwellings including public open space, equipped children’s play area and associated development.
The application involves the restoration of three listed pavilions at the site of the former Belvoir Park cancer hospital on Hospital Road, BT8. It includes five “affordable housing” units, intended for “active elderly” people, which is approximately 15 percent of the total. The current Belfast Local Development Plan stipulates that any new major residential development has 20 percent social or affordable housing, at elected members discretion.
