Artsdepot in North Finchley, London, celebrates 20 years of providing a creative space for all ages with diverse performances, workshops, and community events.
Artsdepot in North Finchley, north London , describes itself as a 'creative home for everyone' with shows for children and adults throughout the festive season and the rest of the year. Having weathered the Coronavirus pandemic, soaring energy prices, and the cost-of-living crisis, they express optimism about the future. Monique Delatant, Artsdepot CEO, believes their success lies in understanding their audience and constantly 'making something for everyone'.
One of Artsdepot's auditoriums features an adaptation of Julia Donaldson's The Gruffalo's Child, marking its 20th anniversary. The theatre is filled with school and nursery groups, young families, and local residents singing and dancing along. Actor Hannah Mullen shares, 'You get to relate to the audience - they're so close and they're so willing to participate. I really enjoy having that relationship with the audience and what they give you'. Another show is presented in Artsdepot's smaller auditorium. The Fir Tree combines music and puppetry in a retelling of the Hans Christian Anderson story. Director Eva Sampson states, 'It's not easy making new work. You need people saying, 'yes'... and 'how can we help'? This building really does that. And the way they welcome an audience is really special'. Artsdepot is more than just theatre. The Department of Winter is a dedicated space for Christmas where children can engage in games and crafts. Plans are underway to update Artsdepot's facilities next year while maintaining a compelling program for the community. Monique emphasizes, 'Twenty years is an amazing moment, considering we were born the same year as Facebook started. Yet that passion people have, to come and visit local art spaces, is still there'
