Undergoing any form of medical transition is a big decision, and one which young people must be supported through

I knew deep down that I was a girl when I was in primary school but only found the words to describe what I was feeling when I was 15. I finally came out when I was 18 and since then, I have been happy. Coming out, transitioning, and living my life as my authentic self has been one of the best things I could have ever done. I’m not alone.

Puberty blockers could have given me time to work out who I really was and what I really wanted with my life, rather than forcing me through a puberty that wasn’t right for me. It would’ve given me the opportunity to pause the timer and work through who I was with my parents, doctors and other adults in my life.

The review has been criticised for dismissing much of the research into the effectiveness of puberty blockers and hormone therapy and therefore makes recommendations which, depending on implementation, could put up additional barriers to medical transition for 18-25 year olds.
