Christmas can be a lonely time of year but Asda wants to fix that.
Asda is introducing a significant initiative in all its cafes to combat loneliness among the elderly, particularly during the festive season which can be an isolating time for many. The over 60s are especially vulnerable to loneliness during this period, with one in ten unsure if they'll have anyone to talk to from December 1 to January 1.
To tackle these concerning figures, Asda has rolled out the Chatty Cafés scheme, inviting those over 60 to join others at their local Asda café to enjoy a winter warmer lunch deal, fostering connections and offering relief from the sting of loneliness. The deal includes soup, a roll, and a hot drink, providing not just nourishment but also social interaction.
He said: "It's heart-breaking to think that so many over 60's in Britain might not speak to anyone at all over the extended Christmas period. Asda's going all out to bring people in this Christmas and make them feel seen and heard, and spread a little Christmas joy.
