Our needs are often talked about in terms of being ‘extra’ or ‘special’. As though we are the only members of society that need help and support.we aren’t being made to feel guilty, we are being hit heavily in our pockets for this ‘luxury’ – contrary to popular belief, social care is not free.
In fact, the proposed changes to the Care Act may leave many disabled people in poverty, as they will have to pay for care out of their means tested benefits. The argument is that everyone will pay the same for social care but that means that the poorest or young disabled people who want to build up their careers and those who cannot work, will be hit the hardest, as they will be expected to pay the same as those with assets of over £106,000.
