Emboldened by the HTS lighting advance, Syrian rebel groups seize ground across the Syria as the world prepares for Assad's fallA southern rebel group, calling themselves the Southern Operation Room, have reportedly assumed nominal control of the governates of Suwayda and Daara, including the major border crossing between Jordan and Syria.
Anti-regime armed groups advancing in Syria’s strategically important province of Homs, the gateway to the capital Damascus, reach the inner parts of the city center in Homs, Syria. It’s not known what resistance Hezbollah might offer after a depleting war with Israel, and in the wake of reports that Iran has started evacuating its nationals, including military advisors, from Syria.
“We confirm that your citizens will enjoy full rights of security and protection, as well as your diplomatic missions,” HTS said in a statement which also called for the establishment of diplomatic relations with both countries. Piling on the pressure, two Syrian army sources said the alliance known as the Syrian Democratic Forces had swept through the Albu Kamal border crossing with Iraq in Syria’s eastern border.
Assad regained control of most of Syria after key allies – Russia, Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah group – came to his rescue.
