On Thursday the Anchorage Assembly and Mayor Dave Bronson will look to take action and potentially amend municipal code to provide designated parking areas for people experiencing homelessness and living out of their vehicles.
Special meeting to be held ThursdayPublished: Apr. 17, 2024 at 9:43 PM AKDTANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Anchorage Assembly and Mayor Dave Bronson are expected to take action on Thursday over an ordinance amending municipal code and providing those experiencing homeless in Anchorage with safe, designated parking areas.
“We need safe places for folks to go, so that they don’t feel the pressure of ‘is my car going to get towed?’,” Rivera said. “For these folks, it’s their car, their house, their everything is going to get towed.” “It’s really all going to depend on the community,” Rivera said, noting that the Assembly will need the help of volunteer groups in order to allow designated areas for the parking of vehicles as temporary living quarters. “We’re going to rely on the community to help this program be successful, and from what we’re hearing, there are some entities interested in this program.”
