Babies who were found alone in rubble following a deadly earthquake in Turkey have been flown to the capital Ankara on a presidential plane
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s wife, Emira, saidand flown to safety, while the country’s family minister, Derya Yanik, shared heartwarming pictures of babies covered in blankets in the arms of rescuers.
“The good health of 16 earthquake victims, who were transported from Kahramanmaraş to Ankara by the presidential plane upon the instruction of our president, renewed our hopes a little bit,” the first lady tweeted.“They are in the safe hands of our state.”the earthquake struck on Monday“The general health of our children is very good.
It came as stories emerged of newborns and toddlers being rescued after days of being trapped under the rubble in Syria and Turkey. The 7.8-magnitude earthquake early on Monday morning has killed more than 16,000 people in both countries, while hundreds of thousands have lost their homes.
