Mr Huq, a dual Bangladeshi and British citizen, has been recognized for his two-decade-long efforts to enhance collaboration between universities and researchers in both countries to address poverty eradication and climate change. He has published numerous scientific articles and was named one of the top 10 scientists in the world by the journal Nature. His advocacy for the most vulnerable and his dedication to tackling climate change have left an unparalleled legacy.
“As a dual Bangladeshi and British citizen, I have been working for two decades to enhance collaboration between the universities and researchers in both countries to tackle the twin global challenges of poverty eradication and dealing with climate change ,” Mr Huq said in receiving the honour.
United Nations climate negotiators last year approved the creation of that fund, but efforts to get it going further have so far stalled.
