Thousands of Barclays customers have been left unable to access their accounts for over 24 hours due to a widespread IT outage. The bank has issued apologies and assurances that no customer will be financially disadvantaged as a result of the issue. However, the outage, coinciding with payday for many, has sparked widespread frustration on social media, with customers reporting difficulties with online banking, paying for goods and services, and accessing essential funds.

Barclays has issued a message to customers amid an IT outage that has seen some account holders unable to access their accounts for 24 hours. The bank said that 'ongoing technical issues' are impacting customers accounts and issued an apology to those affected. Barclays said some customers might also see an outdated balance or payments not showing up, but the bank assured customers on Saturday: 'We will ensure that no customer is left out of pocket.

' The Down Detector website has shown more than 1,600 reports of outages for Barclays banking services since Friday. Some customers claim they have been unable to access their money for almost a day after the issues started on Friday. The outage, which has coincided with January payday for many UK workers, has prompted many to take to social media to air their frustrations. One X user wrote: “Due to you Barclays I’m left without money had a food shop due for delivery this morning which now will get cancelled, leave my four kids with no food it’s a joke as (it is) my money.' Another added: “How can I eat and keep warm if I can’t get to my funds?” Another said: “Well I’ve just had to put all my shopping back in Tesco never been so embarrassed in my life .. as can’t access my own money.” One mother claimed she was unable to buy milk for her baby due to the outage. “My four-month-old is out of milk powder and screaming for a feed and I still haven’t been paid,” she said. “I’ve been in tears for hours.” Barclays issued a number of apologies on social media to customers in the wake of Friday’s outage. In a statement on Saturday, a Barclays spokesperson said: “We’re incredibly sorry for the ongoing technical issues that are impacting our customers’ accounts. “Some may see an outdated balance, and payments made or received may not show. “We’re working hard to fix this issue, and customers should not try to make the payment again. “Customers can use their cards and withdraw cash, and as soon as these remaining issues are resolved, we’ll let our customers know. “We will ensure that no impacted customer is left out of pocket.
