Gers are heading to the Theatre of Dreams in the Europa League but Barry isn;t buying Parkhead nightmare narrative
Rangers should be buzzing about their Europa League draw and the prospect of a trip to the Theatre of Dreams. And they should ignore the doubters and doom mongers who claim they’re in for a nightmare on Kerrydale Street tomorrow too.
So it will be as you are with the players who have been at Parkhead all summer. I’m not expecting any surprises from them. In fact I reckon I could name their starting line-up right now. You’ve got to go back to Steven Gerrard’s time at Ibrox since Rangers last got a grip on the Celtic skipper. He’s a fantastic footballer and when you give players like him time on the ball, he'll likely cause you problems.
Of course Celtic have quality all over the pitch but for me it all starts with McGregor and that’s why I’d want that trio in there keeping a close watch on McGregor. Any time he gets the ball they have to be on top of him, snapping at his heels. Yes he might slip out now and again but if they can rush him into mistakes then I think Clement’s team can realistically come away from Parkhead with a point.
You’ve got Manchester United, Spurs, Lyon and Olympiacos in there. All of these teams wouldn’t look out of place in UEFA’s top tournament. There’s an argument that some of those games will be tougher than the ones Celtic are facing in the Champions League. You’ve also got Lyon, Union Saint Gilloise and Steaua Bucharest coming to Glasgow and I believe those are ties this Rangers side can look to with confidence. Losing to Dynamo Kyiv was a huge blow but Rangers at Ibrox is a totally different beast to the tame animal that whimpered out of the Champions League this month.
