Geelong captain Patrick Dangerfield is out indefinitely after suffering a partially collapsed lung and cracked rib in a marking contest during last night’s 38-point loss to Port Adelaide.
The Cats confirmed post-match that Dangerfield went to hospital “as a precaution for further assessment” after his second-quarter collision with Power defender Dan Houston, despite playing the match out.
The Cats remain outside the top eight and host 2021 premiers Melbourne next Thursday night at GMHBA Stadium, with the Demons fresh from beating Collingwood and having the benefit of a bye this week.During the post-match press conference, Scott declined to confirm radio reports that Dangerfield had been hospitalised after the match, before Geelong’s social media team confirmed the news.
“We were playing well enough in the first half to think we had control of the game,” Scott said. “But their weight of numbers through the midfield, especially centre bounces but the clearances in general, was a domination in terms of metres gained from stoppages. Trailing by 21 points midway through the second quarter, the Power were still 13 points in arrears early in the third when Patrick Dangerfield converted a 50m penalty after Jason Horne-Francis injudiciously hurled the footy away after conceding a free kick.
The reactive home side was second to the footy and fumbled when they had it in their clutches and was errant in front of goals.Charlie Dixon missed a snap from close range and was made to pay when Tom Hawkins kicked a fine goal at the other end.
