Tim Davie said the BBC will look at all options to reclaim the newsreader's pay..

BBC director-general Tim Davie has said he knew of Huw Edwards' arrest on “suspicion of serious offences” in November but continued to pay him until April.

The Mirror reports how Davie also mentioned that the BBC was not informed regarding the ages of the children depicted in the images. When pressed on whether Edwards is still entitled to his pension, he said: “These are, unfortunately, the specifics of how it works, that we can’t claw back pension.

Before he resigned in April on medical advice, Edwards was paid between £475,000 and £479,999 for the year 2023/24, according to the BBC’s latest annual report. This last salary marked a £40,000 pay rise from 2022/23, when he was paid between £435,000 and £439,999. The final indecent image was sent in August 2021, a category A film featuring a young boy, with the convicted paedophile telling the newsreader the child was “quite young looking” and that he had more images which were illegal. The BBC expressed their 'shock' at the disturbing details that came to light in court.
