One of BBC Breakfast’s favourite stars is taking a break and has been replaced on the show for a short time, but has reassured fans that they’ll be back soon
BBC Breakfast’s weather presenter Carol Kirkwood was absent from the morning news show on Tuesday 7 May, causing fans to worry as she has been off air for a few days and had previously shown signs she was suffering from a bad cold at the end of last month. Her role was taken on by Matt Taylor. However, he is just a temporary stand-in, as Carol has reassured fans that she’s just taking a holiday break in Cornwall for a few days and will be back soon.
Carol, 61, began her career at BBC Radio Scotland, followed by stints at BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 2. She worked as a news presenter before joining the UK arm of The Weather Channel in 1996, and later underwent training with the Met Office and became part of BBC TV’s weather team. Since then she has regularly reported on Britain’s often challenging climate on BBC Breakfast, and supplied weather forecasts during events including Wimbledon.
“It’s weird because I never thought I would be doing this,” she told OK! “I never in my wildest dreams thought that my first two books would be as well received as they have been. I’m so grateful because it’s such good fun. I love the freedom and the fact that you can create characters that don’t exist until you create them. It’s so liberating.”
