BBC Countryfile star Adam Henson has opened up about the 'tricky' transition when he took over his parents' farm
BBC Countryfile's Adam Henson revealed he had to "have a word" with his father following an "awkward" incident involving his wife. In his recent book, Christmas on the Farm, Adam shared how he agreed to take over his dad's farm after his parents decided to live elsewhere, but the transition wasn't smooth, reports Birmingham Live.
He recounted an episode shortly after he and his wife, Charlotte, moved in. He said: "Dad came to the farm most days, and he would walk into the kitchen without knocking, perhaps with a feed merchant in tow, while Charlie was breastfeeding Ella at the kitchen table." "'Any chance of a coffee, Charlie? ' he'd say, breezily." Adam praised his wife for her patience and admitted that he had to intervene and have a 'quiet word' with his father about his intrusive behaviour.
He added: "I think this transition is something that affects all farms that are handed down through the generations. Charlie was very patient, but in the end I had a quiet word with dad about knocking before he came in, and gradually both mum and dad came to accept that the farmhouse was ours, and that we would live there in our own way."
He continued: "It was really tricky for Mum, she had spent thirty-six years bringing up her children there, nursing her parents and Dad's mum there in the end stages of their lives. Because they moved into a smaller house, many of their belongings and furniture remained at the farm, which made it even more difficult to think of it as no longer theirs."
