A rapist who faked his own death in a bid to evade justice for his sickening sex crimes will be featured in a true crime documentary this week. Kim Avis, 60, subjected women and children to a decade-long campaign of abuse in the Highlands.
Now, BBC Disclosure is highlighting Avis' case in their latest documentary, Dead Man Running. The flagship investigative show will air on BBC One Scotland at 9pm on Wednesday, March 27. Avis had first been reported missing by his teenage son on February 25, 2019, after he went for a swim on Monastery Beach in California. The site has been dubbed 'Mortuary Beach' as dozens of people have died there.
Top news stories today In May 2021, Avis was convicted of 14 charges of rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, and indecency against two women and two girls - as well as failing to appear at court in March 2019 - at the High Court in Glasgow.
