Belfast Council has snubbed landlords by refusing to hear a deputation at City Hall in relation to HMO application fees.
Applications for new HMO licences have increased in other parts of the city in recent months, notably in North Belfast. While the council policy is that HMO’s should not account for more than 20 percent of any area of housing management, in reality many streets well exceed this, with some in the Holyland reaching over 90 percent. Outside housing policy areas, the threshold is 10 percent.
He left the SDLP in 2017 in a row over abortion. After he lost his seat, in 2022, some of the scale of his property portfolio in the Holyland was revealed following a long-running probe into complaints that he had failed to comply with the councillors' code of conduct during his time as elected representative.
