The new Irish passport will come out next year
Belfast Council is to write to the Irish government to have Northern Ireland beauty spots included in the design for the new Irish passport.
“However, the Department of Foreign Affairs is currently redesigning the passport, so there is an opportunity to rectify this. They are considering natural features for the new version, so this is a perfect opportunity to showcase the natural beauty of this part of the island." “An Irish passport which artificially ignores hundreds of thousands of citizens on this part of the island doesn’t fulfill its obligations to those citizens. So I am asking we write to the Department of Foreign Affairs to ask them to include features from the northeast of this island in the new passport when it is launched.”
