A trustee of the Belfast Multi-Cultural Association has said "the majority of the community" feel unsafe and haven't left their homes "for weeks".
"My own family haven’t left the house for a week now, this is what the situation is," Muhammad Atif told BBC News NI.a major security operation is being put in placeWhen asked if he believed that the Police Service of Northern Ireland would “stand in the way of harm to protect you”, Mr Atif replied: “No, definitely not”.
Mr Atif said distrust in the PSNI was not something "new" for those from ethnic minority communities. He said he “personally informed” them “multiple times” of reports of potential threats against the community.“I feel like they allowed people to go and do the damages that were done on Saturday night and even after.”Last year, the association listed the building for sale "with a heavy heart".BBC News NI has asked the PSNI for a response to Mr Atif's comments.
