Accused's behaviour 'totally unacceptable…and I can fully understand how the other passengers were frightened and upset, and I’m told angry'
A judge has called for tougher sentencing powers as he dealt with a man who shouted abuse on an easyJet flight from Malaga.
McCann, from Victoria Gardens in Donaghadee, had earlier entered guilty pleas to the two offences arising from events on an easyJet flight from Malaga to Belfast on December 31 last year. As the plane was rolling along the runway about to take off, McCann tried to make three phonecalls on his mobile which as every passenger knows, is “strictly prohibited” and the defendant refused to comply with direct instructions from the cabin manager to put his phone away.
“She told him to look out the window or try to sleep but unfortunately after about five minutes, there were numerous service calls from passengers around Mr McCann who was shouting ‘I want a f****** beer, f****** divert the flight until I get a drink, yous are a pack of b*******’,” the lawyer told the court.
