A school in Belfast has reopened following a "controlled explosion" after the composition of an "approved chemical" used for A-Level science experiments changed.
Lessons were put on pause and students were evacuated from the grammar school while police and the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene, with the incident dealt with by 2.22pm.Police said a "controlled explosion" was carried out during the incident, with the substance "being removed" from the scene.
He added: "On discovering the composition of the chemical had changed, and having taken advice from relevant authorities, all necessary steps were taken to deal with the issues quickly and safely. A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said three fire appliances attended the incident. They said: "Firefighters were called to an incident involving a substance. Firefighters made the scene safe and handed the scene over to the appropriate authorities. The incident was dealt with by 2.22pm."
