A Bexar County jury found Daniel Garcia guilty of killing 5-year-old Domenic Patrick Aguilar in a San Antonio hotel room in 2021, accepting the account of the boy’s mother that he subsequently threw his body into a Colorado ravine. Domenic’s death on July 24, 2021, put Garcia and his then girlfriend, Nickoll Cristina Aguilar , on the road, driving to Colorado with the child’s body strapped into a car seat and his younger sister seated next to him, according to her testimony.
In his closing argument, Gross called Aguilar a manipulator of both Garcia and of the jury. He reminded jurors that she admitted she stopped taking her medication prior to her testimony so that she could show emotion. “She did everything she could to avoid five to life, and she got a sweet deal — 15 years — from these guys,” Gross told the panel as he gestured to the prosecutors. “She admitted lying to every law enforcement officer and family member, and she lied to you.
