The project was initially expected to cost around $13 million and figures presented to the court today show that the bill has ballooned to $22.9 million over the four years of delays.
The facility was first budgeted in 2019, and four years later, the plot of land where that facility will sit remains untouched. Judge Sakai said that while criticism of the slow progress on the project was justified given that it was voted on and passed by a prior court, he wanted to ensure the needs and stakeholders were all the same as when it was budgeted four years ago.
