Lundin initiated legal action, Caserones union said
BHP and the union at the Escondida copper mine in Chile signed a new bargaining agreement while the strike at Lundin Mining's Caserones mine continues. The new deal between BHP and the worker's union, which was officially signed this weekend, reportedly included a $32,000 bonus. The union had demanded 1% of shareholder dividends to be distributed among workers, around $36,000 each.
The union criticised the company's decision to seek legal action instead of negotiating an agreement and ending the strike, adding that it makes it difficult to move forward. Marco García, the union's president, told local media that it has had no contract talks with Lundin besides a meeting with the regional labour department.
