Funding includes C$100 million for BHP’s Jansen potash mine

Canada's minister of energy and natural resources, Jonathan Wilkinson, announced the government will spend millions on the clean economy in Saskatchewan , including C$129 million for critical minerals.Of the 34 critical minerals the Canadian government has included on its critical mineral list, 27 can be found in Saskatchewan . Mineral exploration expenditure in the province hit a decade-high in 2023, according to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy.

"Saskatchewan Research Council's Rare Earth Processing Facility plays an important role in our government's plan to establish a domestic rare earth supply chain that grows our economy and creates good jobs for Canadians."BHP's giant potash project in Saskatchewan, meanwhile, is expected to deliver its first production in late 2026, with construction of stage one underway. Following the ramp-up of the second stage, the project will have a capacity of around 8.
