Partnership aimed at helping India decarbonise its steel industry

BHP has agreed to help India clean up and decarbonise its steel sector so the country can meet its ambitious net zero target by 2070.India is the second-largest steel producer behind China and the fastest-growing steel economy globally, with projections the sector could triple by 2050.In 2022, India produced 125.3Mt of crude steel, or 8% of the market share. This compares to 1.02Bt produced by China, the world's largest producer .

"We recognise that decarbonising this industry is a challenge that we cannot meet alone and we must come together to leverage shared expertise and resources to support the development of technologies and capability that could have the potential to create a real change in carbon emissions both now and in the longer term," Udd said.BHP chief commercial officer Rag Udd.
