The President of the United States has weighed in on whether Ukraine should be given a path to a NATO membership ahead of this week's crucial summit which Anthony Albanese will also attend.
Kyiv and its leader Volodymyr Zelensky have been repeatedly calling for a clear path into the alliance in the weeks following the invasion from Russia back in February 2020.
Ahead of a NATO summit in Lithuania this week, President Biden said it is"premature" to call for a vote as other issues, including democratisation had to be sorted. "It's a commitment that we've all made no matter what. If the war is going on, then we're all in war. We're at war with Russia, if that were the case."
Several nations have denounced the supply of the weapon, which typically scatter numerous smaller bombs over a wide area, with more than 100 countries banning them under an international treaty prohibiting its use and supply. Spain also raised its voice about the use of cluster bombs, with Defence Minister Margarita Robles telling Politico it wanted"legitimate defence of Ukraine".
