As winter comes into view, there are various support payments available for eligible people
As energy bills continue to rise, "millions of households" are missing out on essential support that could save them up to £150 this winter. That's according to Chris Richards, founder of Utility Saving Expert, who has explained how households can reduce their energy costs with government schemes designed to help struggling families stay warm.
Warm Home Discount One of the simplest ways to save on your energy bills is through the Warm Home Discount Scheme administered by the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero. This initiative offers eligible households a one-off £150 discount on their energy bills. "If you're receiving certain benefits like Pension Credit, you may qualify automatically," Chris said. "Even those on other benefits living in homes with high energy costs can be eligible.
Cold Weather Payments If you live in an area that experiences freezing temperatures, you could receive Cold Weather Payments. These DWP payments are automatically triggered when temperatures drop to zero degrees or below for seven consecutive days and you could receive £25 for each qualifying week between November and March.
Household Support Fund In addition to the more well-known schemes, the Household Support Fund has been extended to help households struggling with their energy bills. Local councils distribute this funding, which can be used for direct bank transfers, energy vouchers, or even discounts on essential household items.
