Bin strikes across Scotland have moved a step closer after "angry" council workers represented by the country's biggest union voted overwhelmingly to reject the latest pay offer.

Shona Robison, the Finance Secretary, will make a statement to MSPs later today on where spending will be slashed. The union also has a mandate for walk-outs by education support staff, which could close classrooms in Perth & Kinross, Shetland, Orkney, East Renfrewshire and Angus. "They want a fair increase to stop their pay consistently falling behind, and for their wage increase to be in line with other areas of the economy.
