Sometimes crime figures don't tell the whole story
The seaside resort lies third in a list of shame, behind London and now Middlesbrough. But figures like these are often taken with a pinch of salt.
Queen Street Saw 126 crimes reported between April 2020 and March 2023. 53 of those crimes were classed as violent and sexual offences. "Antisocial behaviour is the biggest problem. The kids are bored, the congregate at the top of the street. They can't be much older than 11 or 12 years old. You can't really tell though because they cover their faces with those balaclavas. I think they're just bored, but I don't think the kids that caused the trouble would use any youth services."
"The fact that we're one of the worst streets surprises me, but I can see where the anti-social behaviour numbers come from, because of the youths. But they've never really caused me any real problems."
