Mass General Brigham announced it would its update policies on automatically flagging child abuse and neglect reports in cases of mothers testing positive for drugs.

A Boston, Massachusetts, hospital announced Tuesday that after finding Black mothers were more likely to be reported for child abuse and neglect if a toxicology report came back positive, it would be taking steps to reevaluate the process in order to avoid perpetuating 'structural racism.' 'Black pregnant people are more likely to be drug tested and to be reported to child welfare systems than white pregnant people,' said Mass General Brigham, a nonprofit health care system.

spokesperson for the hospital told Fox News Digital, 'Mass General Brigham bases its policies on the latest science and established medical practice. To be clear, our policy states that if there is reasonable cause to believe that an infant is suffering or at imminent risk of suffering physical or emotional injury, we will continue to report those cases as we always have. 'Our policy now requires written consent for toxicology testing of any expecting mother or infant in most cases.
