A Boston man is being held without bail after police say he broke into his 19-year-old girlfriend's Woburn home, assaulted her and fired a gun while her newborn baby, mother and grandmother were inside.

Andrew Neal, 43, of Hyde Park, was arraigned Friday in Woburn District Court on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, discharging a weapon within 500 feet of a dwelling and illegal possession of a firearm. Police said Neal allegedly broke into his girlfriend's home on Samoset Road, assaulted her and then fired his gun inside the home before escaping out a window around 2:25 a.m. Friday.

With the help of a police dog, Neal was found hiding in a shed behind a house on Melo Road around 4 a.m. He was taken into custody without incident. A black semi-automatic pistol was found in the yard of that house with the serial numbers rubbed off. Two shell casings were later found inside the house.

In court, prosecutors said he had been holding a gun in one hand while holding the baby in the other. Court documents also revealed that Neal is the father to the child.Neal is due back in court May 16 pending a dangerousness hearing.
