Marcel Hug recorded an unofficial race time of 1:15:33, beating his record of 1:17:06 set in 2023.
Sisay Lemma won his first Boston Marathon with an unofficial time of 2:06:17, recording the 10th-fastest time in race history. The Ethiopian runner had a stunning lead throughout most of the race when he took over the lead pack and hit the 5K marker at 14:21. Lemma kept up a blistering pace and was projected to finish at 2:00.06 after the 10K mark. Advertisement Evans Chebet, last year’s winner, moved to second as a pack of five men stuck together through the 20K mark.
On Monday, the Switzerland native beat his record despite crashing into a barrier about 18 miles into the race. “I just had too much … pressure on the steering, so it’s my fault,” Hug said of his crash. His left hand was scratched during the crash. Hug took back the olive wreath last year after withdrawing from the 2022 Boston Marathon less than an hour before the race, citing medical reasons.
