Outgoing council leader Martin Rooney made the bombshell announcement at the end of today's full meeting of the authority.
Labour have relinquished control of West Dunbartonshire Council this afternoon, with two former party councillors accused of putting "personal advancement above the greater good."
It comes following the resignation of two Clydebank councillors earlier this week, leaving the remaining members to form an SNP, Community Party and independent coalition. Councillors June McKay and Danny Lennie who had both quit Labour during the week both voted in favour of Councillor Murray Conaghan.Speaking at the end of the meeting, Councillor Rooney said: "It's clear that the Labour administration no longer has a sufficient number of votes to be able to get a budget through.
The outgoing Provost said: “It is beyond disappointing that Danny Lennie and June McKay used the Scottish Labour Party to get elected and have now turned their backs on Labour voters. They have shown their true colours and denied democracy.
