Brendan Rodgers Celtic Treble goal a 'tough ask' after Ange but one new signing sees Jota worries fade away
Brendan Rodgers has set his sights on a Celtic Treble and it won't be an easy feat after the success of Ange Postecoglou.
The Irishman comes back in to the Parkhead hot-seat after one upping the Aussie. Rodgers made it a clean sweep of seven trophies from seven in his first spell in Glasgow that also saw the added spice of an invincible domestic campaign top off a Treble. Postecoglou left Glasgow in June after repeating the feat, with the returning 50-year-old manager ready for an all-out assault on the Scottish Premiership and the Champions League, a competition the Hoops crashed out of last season.
Rodgers has already made his mark on the scenery at Lennoxtown, as Record Sport revealed he laid down the law on defender Alexandro Bernabei for poor time keeping and urged integral star Reo Hatate to show him why he should be in the starting eleven. Celtic lost Jota in a money-spinning move to Saudi Arabia, but the Irishman moved to bring in five new signings with South Korean winger Yang ready to make his mark.
And former Hoops star Pat Nevin reckons the 21-year-old will provide the goods and have Parkhead fans forgetting all about the 'superstar from Portugal'. He does, however, concede it won't be an easy task to win three trophies on the spin. He told Sporting Post: "What is hard for Brendan Rogers, is if they do not win the treble, some Celtic fans will view him as a failure, because of what happened with Ange beforehand. It’s a tough ask, but that will be the expectation.
"They lost a good player in Jota, and Celtic fans were concerned as they lost a big player who turned up in big games. However, I would not worry anymore as what I saw from Yang, showed me that he will be completely fine. He looks like a good player, who Celtic and football fans will love. He may not be at Mitoma’s level at Brighton, but Celtic fans should not worry as he will do well. "
