The Hoops have jetted out to America for pre-season as they ramp up preparations for the new campaign
There are pre-season tours and then there are American pre-season tours, writes Michael Gannon in the US.
It was an eventful trip. There were hefty wins in the Caribbean – and hefty nights on the beer as well. There were more laughs on the mainland and another NINE matches as well as the Hoops squad make bonds that would take them to an incredible clean sweep of trophies nine months later, with the European Cup at the top of the pile.
“No pressure!” Rodgers joked. “That’s okay. The expectations is always here in Celtic but listen, it’s brilliant to be going there. I’ve been to America a few times, Liverpool and whatever, and it’s a great country to go and play the football in. We’re playing some iconic stadiums against great teams and, yeah, we’ve been really looking forward to it. I’m meeting supporters out here that obviously have to watch and tell you from afar they get the chance to see the team, which is really special.
“It’s great for the players and the staff. We’ve got really good games out there. But I think Celtic is an iconic club. It’s a club that’s supported worldwide. You go to an event in New York and you always think, it was a local team that was there. It’s absolutely incredible. So, the chance for us to go there, it’s a great privilege. It’s a great country, but it also shows the esteem of which Celtic is held in.
