Ex Hoops fans favourite John Hartson is hoping his old club can seal the deal with the Premiership title and then tool up for Europe.
John Hartson knows there’s a huge pile of cash up for grabs this season as well as the prestige of winning the Premiership.
He said: “Strikers are hard to find. The fee to get him know will have shot up because he’s been success at the club. He’s scored big, important goals for Celtic this season. When he first came in you got the feeling some of the fans were a bit underwhelmed. They looked at him playing for Norwich, maybe not getting a game every week, and it was a loan signing.
The 23-year-old has to fight it out with main man Kyogo but Hartson insisted the frontman can take heart from his scrap with Henrik Larsson and Chris Sutton back in the day. “When you play with quality players it brings the best out of you. We had so much quality in that side, the boys were immense. It’s a different era now but they need that quality for the league and for Europe. I do think Brendan will be backed because there were a lot of disgruntled fans who though he should have had more in January.”
“It’s important the Celtic board backs Brendan this summer and I think they will. They all saw the disappointing Champions League campaign. I’m not saying they go and spend £10million on a player because that’s not really Celtic’s way.“They need to help him get to the second phase of the Champions League because in recent years it’s been awful, it really, really has.”
