A new study reveals Brits are shifting away from rigid diets and intense fitness plans, opting for a more relaxed approach to New Year's resolutions in 2025. Emphasis is placed on happiness, self-compassion, and enjoying everyday pleasures.

Many Brits are moving away from strict diets and intense fitness regimes in favor of happiness, self-compassion, and enjoying small, everyday pleasures for 2025. A survey of 2,000 adults reveals a shift in attitudes towards New Year's resolutions, with Brits choosing more relaxed goals focused on enjoyment and personal fulfillment rather than typical, unattainable ambitions.

While over half of Brits find New Year's resolutions beneficial for personal growth, only 13% believe they'll stick to them throughout the year. Consequently, a third are choosing not to make any at all, explaining they don't want to set themselves up for failure or feel pressured. Instead, Brits are approaching resolutions differently this year. The study notes that Gen Z embraces the 'joy of missing out,' not feeling guilty about canceling plans. Millennials plan to commit to one small adventure each month, like visiting a nearby town. Those in their late 40s to 50s are indulging in simple pleasures like binge-watching shows, treating themselves to favorite sweets, and spending more time in nature. Meanwhile, Boomers aged 60 to 78 prioritize more conventional goals, particularly weight loss. However, the study highlights a playful spirit across generations, whether through laughing more, creating 'no' lists instead of 'to-do' lists, or adopting 'main character energy.' The study was commissioned by Away Resorts, which is currently offering a 15% discount on bookings. Away Resorts founder Carl Castledine commented: 'While we share some 'sensible' and traditional goals, it's encouraging to see people prioritizing happiness and adventure for next year too.' More importantly, he added: 'There is no right or wrong way to set them.
