A wave of fines have been handed out in the Canary Islands to people who refuse to rent out their holiday properties to tourists
UK tourists with holiday homes in the Canary Islands have been shocked by £2,000 fines. The fines are for not renting out their properties to other holidaymakers.
John Hefferman, who has had a place in Gran Canaria for 13 years, got a fine of £1,930 . He told the local paper, Canarias 7: "We have paid the fine but the thing about it is that it's a bit unfair.""We believe that the fines are suspended for people who did appeal it but we did not have an opportunity to appeal it because we didn't receive it in time. The other issue is that we find this very worrying.
