Blackpool bus driver hospitalised and five passengers treated after crash outside Savoy Hotel
Emergency services were called to reports of a collision on Queen's Promenade shortly after 8am today . A Blackpool Transport single-decker bus was found to have collided with a lampppost and a wall shedding dozens of bricks across the Savoy Hotel car park and pavement.
Blackpool Transport told LancsLive that the driver is currently receiving medical care in Blackpool Victoria Hospital. Five passengers onboard the bus were attended by paramedics at the scene with none needing hospital treatment.Bosses say they are working with Lancashire Constabulary and other stakeholders to 'ascertain the cause of the accident', adding: "Our thoughts are currently with the driver and the customers who were on board the bus today.
Lancashire Constabulary told LancsLive that it was classed as a 'minor injury' incident. Pictures taken at the scene by LancsLive showed the Cleveleys-bound bus resting against the metal lamppost holding one of the illuminations while the collision also resulted in the wall being knocked down. A Blackpool Transport spokesperson said: "We are currently working closely with the police and other stakeholders to ascertain the cause of the accident. Our driver is currently receiving medical care in Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
"Five customers onboard were attended by paramedics at the scene with none needing hospital treatment. Our thoughts are currently with the driver and the customers who were on board the bus today."
