Scotland's justice secretary has vowed to consider a new law on tackling killer drug dealers after a campaign by the dad of ecstasy death schoolgirl Grace Handling
Scotland's justice secretary has vowed to consider a new law on tackling killer drug dealers after a campaign by the dad of ecstasy death schoolgirl Grace Handling.
Stewart said: “I believe the current prosecution of drugs death crime in Scotland is not fit for purpose. Stewart joined the campaign to end not proven, which is now set to be scrapped from Scots law under major justice reforms outlined by the Scottish Government. The dad has cited the tragic case of Rebecca Tollan after two men were cleared of killing the new mum by supplying her with high purity cocaine in November.
Stewart is due to discuss Grace’s case and those of other drug death victims with Angela Constance in September. “This is going on in every town in Scotland. There are runners, pushers, a network of dealers in place. It’s an economy. It’s so bad for the whole country and it’s not going away any time soon so I would hope the justice secretary will see some merit in what I’m proposing.
